Our Mission & Goals
Sunder Rang is a project that started in 2007 under the foresighted vision of Kristin G. Andresen and Praduman Singh. It has been supported by Ferd, family business of Kristin. It was a first step in the direction of encouraging the women of Chandelao to augment their skills and daily income while providing some sort of value addition for them through education & exposure to the world outside. Under the aegis of Sunder Rang, we cater to people in every corner of the world. Either as customers when they visit us at our Art & Craft Center in Chandelao or when we fulfill the orders placed with us from overseas.
The whole idea of Sunder Rang is to provide fair wages to the artisans (mainly women) while keeping the art and skill of traditional methods alive. The women here work from 10 AM in the morning to 4 PM in the evening with a lunch hour from 1 to 2 PM. An hour every day, between 3 to 4 PM is dedicated to their education where they are given reading and writing classes. The women are paid daily wages plus 60% of the profit from the product sold which was made by them. Every product at the Center has a tag with the name of the woman who made it.
Sunder Rang not only employs their labor for sewing and stitching but also employs their creativity with designing the pieces that are showcased in our “Jhopadi” at the Art & Craft Center. Their input with design, practicality, and logistics of every product is invaluable. It’s not all just work. Every alternate year the entire staff undertakes a fully paid summer vacation to a place of their choice for up to 5 days. They have explored Rishikesh, Mathura, Agra, Udaipur, Dwarka, and a few other cities so far.
One of our biggest efforts at Sunder Rang is to be as environmentally friendly as possible and to promote items of a sustainable lifestyle. We try our best to be efficient and to produce 0% waste.
